As a civilisation, we seem to have found ourselves at somewhat of a turning point, where certain topics and behaviours which were previously overlooked or muted have now been brought to the forefront of our attention and are becoming harder to ignore. Rightly so, the Black Lives Matter movement has been highlighted worldwide, and we can no longer ignore the fact that sadly, prejudice is still an everyday occurrence for far too many people.

While many of us may be fortunate enough to have never experienced this behaviour directly, we can all make a choice to understand, listen and educate ourselves. As Martin Luther King once said: “There comes a time when silence is betrayal” – and the time for silence is over.

As a brand, we’re proud to promote ethical and conscious living and we wholeheartedly support the campaign and want to encourage compassion, love and empathy towards one another in everything we do. Reach out to your friends or loved ones who may have been affected by racism or prejudice – have those difficult conversations. Support black creators and business owners. Donate to causes that need funding. Smile at strangers more. Spread love and positivity like confetti. Listen, read, watch and never stop learning.

It feels as though the world has awoken, and our hope is that this electrification of voices provokes a new and better world for us all to co-inhabit.

Here are 4 wonderful black-owned businesses we want to support and highlight this week:

BIG DEEZ – The Best Free-From Condiments!… NO, just the best condiments all round!

About Big Deez: “My name is Devante Malone and I am a professional chef with a passion for arranging supper clubs and pop-up events around London. I started making table sauces for my brunch clubs and they got such great reviews that I decided to start bottling them. The ‘free from’ concept is a big part of my business and my condiments follow the same philosophy of inclusivity as we offer vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options.”

BUTTERWHIPS – Light, airy & creamy skin care

“We take great care to make sure butterwhips are made with only 100% natural plant extracts, no water, fillers or synthetic additives, any long names you see on our labels are either the Latin names of the plants or compounds that occur naturally in their extracts.

We include love as our final ingredient on our labels because our range is created for our family, from natural and renewable sources without animal testing, and what could be more loving than that?

Diligently handcrafted from the freshest ingredients, we make butterwhips in small batches, although it may occasionally take a few days to get your hands on our latest whip, we know it’s worth the wait.”

KSONI – Lovingly made plastic-free hair care

Ksoni means “Earth” in Sanskrit – and our individual experiences tackling plastic waste and its impact on the earth inspired us to start this business together!

“When we first met in 2018, we immediately hit it off and within months had decided we would launch a natural beauty brand together, setting ourselves a huge challenge to launch a 100% plastic-free product, which is no easy feat in the bathroom! From there Ksoni was born.”
